A rebuttal to Fashion Doll Review's Husband

"Um, honey, about our mortgage payment this month..."

This, of course, is completely tongue in cheek, and would be meant ONLY to tease my friend's husband about his budgetary concerns. I certainly do NOT advocate deficit spending, either as a doll collector or as a potential absolute dictator of the world.

Budgeting Issues Post by Alison

I think we need to use the "deficit spending" excuse. Hey, if governments - all governments, not just ours here in the US of A - can get away with it, why can't we doll collectors, who do a pretty good job of keeping people employed?

Have you thought about it? What all goes into doll collecting? How many jobs do you think it generates:
  1. Concept and design of the doll
  2. Marketing
  3. Manufacture of the doll
  4. Manufacture of the doll's clothing
  5. Manufacture of various props - furniture, accessories, cars
  6. Shipping the doll to the various shops
  7. Manufacture of cameras and equipment for taking pictures of these dolls
  8. Manufacture of cases to protect these dolls from dust and Cute, Fuzzy, Doll-Seeking Missiles of Mass Destruction
  9. Keeping the various shipping companies going - USPS, FedEx, UPS, etc.
  10. Keeping psychiatrists busy with rampant Dollaholism.
  11. The construction industry benefits by doll collectors needing bigger houses, additions, or clever display add ons.
We doll collectors are providing a LOT of jobs to a lot of people who would otherwise be unemployed! Ours is an important function that deserves deficit spending as much as any government does! Plus, we don't tax the people whose jobs we provide.

  1. Very excellent points. In addition, I could add all the web admin jobs our hobby necessities we've recently added for the appropriate blogs, message boards, photo hosting sites and chat rooms required for the doll collectors to discuss the (de)merits of each new (and old) doll that is created.
And also, I would personally never dust, if it weren't for my dolls. What's the point? It's only going to get dusty again! So I would also say the manufacturers of easy-to-use (read: gimmicky) dusting products.

Thanks for your post. And may my husband not see it! :)
